Cock rings come in many different shapes, sizes, textures and varieties. There is an almost infinite variety to them and if you need one for a specific purpose the selection can be, more often than not, bewildering. There are also a lot of folks who would really rather not explain their penis problems to a complete stranger in a sex toy store too, which does not make this easier.
A good example of this is the couple who come in because of a premature ejaculation issue and after being a bit confused by all the choices, and having heard only that rings help, they end up with a vibrating ring. They were advised by someone (not in the store) that if the ring slowed the wearer down and sped the receiver up it would work out. That is advice I have heard before and it probably works for situations where there is simply not enough foreplay or the faster partner is just not paying attention. In most situations of premature ejaculation this probably won’t help as much as you want it to though. This technique assumes that the wearer either can’t feel the vibration, or doesn’t like it, so it doesn’t speed them up as well. This is not the most likely scenario and really, if they don’t like it are they going to want to do it again? That may be good for our receiver but the wearer is not going to feel good about it. The usual outcome of the combination of vibrating ring and premature ejaculation is ejaculation happening faster than ever. The couple in question here came back and managed to find the courage to ask questions the second time. We sent them home with a much better set of options to try.
So how can cockrings help with premature ejaculation? There are three main techniques I am going to outline ranging from just a bit of help to somewhat major help. Please always keep in mind the basic rule of no more than twenty minutes, always be safe when you are restricting blood flow.
Technique 1 The Reminder Ring
The lightest technique is the reminder ring. This is a snug but not tight ring that is worn at the very base of the penis. It is snug enough to be clearly felt but not tight enough to restrict blood flow much if at all. It is literally there to be a reminder to the penis (and human attached to it) that things are getting close. This method works best on those who are having mild issues. If things are not lasting as long as you would prefer or it’s a sometimes problem but not an all-the-time problem. The surge of blood flow and tension of a building orgasm will hit the ring and penis and cause a feeling of mild restriction. That feeling is hopefully strong enough to get the wearers attention and give them a jolt they can use to control themselves. It can also slow down the impending blast off by distracting things for a second and that distraction cools the wearer down just enough.
Technique #2 The Scrotum Ring
This technique is based on a different mechanic than the reminder ring. It’s all part of the same system but this one focuses on the balls and scrotum rather than the penis itself. For this you will need a very stretchy and very wide ring, at least three quarters of an inch wide. Instead of putting it on the penis you are going to put it around the scrotum between the balls and the body. You want it to be a spacer above the balls and holding them away from the body. It does not need to be tight, which is why you want it to be really stretchy, it just needs to be wide and thick. What you are trying to do is keep the balls away from the body. Why would you do such a thing? Well the way that part of the body works is that just before orgasm the balls retract suddenly close to the body in order to shoot the fluid out. If you can keep them from retracting it frequently prevents the impending ejaculation. It is often very difficult to convince the owner of a penis to put a ring on the ballsack but if you can, this method can be pretty effective.
Technique #3 The Hold it Ring
This is the technique that requires the most precision in ring fit. For this one you are actually restricting blood flow so make sure that you have a timer set for that all important twenty minutes. You are going to need a ring that is tight, tight enough to hold the blood in the penis. Since erections are basically hydraulic the goal is to hold that blood and keep that erection even if the orgasm has accidentally happened. This should only be done if you have tried other techniques and they have not worked.
Place a ring around the base of the penis that is tight enough that the blood flow in the visible veins is either very slow or stopped. There are veins under those visible ones that you do not want to cut off so there may be some trial and error to get the right fit. This ring should be very snug but not quite painful. The goal here is to keep a usable erection after orgasm for as long as possible without strangling the penis in question. This is why the timer is so critically important, you do not want this to go on too long. In truth we are not so much preventing premature ejaculation here as preventing some of the consequences of it. The penis will not remain hard forever because we are not cutting off all blood flow but it will stay harder much longer then it would otherwise. Obviously this is not ideal so I encourage everyone to try other techniques before you try this one.
Those are the cockring techniques that I know of to prevent or adapt to premature ejaculation. I have several techniques for these problems that do not involve rings as well but we will cover those in another article because this one is ring focused.
Next up will be the techniques for using a ring to prevent premature deflation.
